Conventions of a music video

this is a basic summary of the conventions for music videos;
 
 
Mise-en-scene: The mise-en-scene of a music video is really important because it usually relates to the lyrics and follows some kind of narrative that's relevant to the song . Costume reflects the genre of the artists work and the music so is an important factor to consider when filming .
 
Editing: Jump shots are often found in music videos because they are good for showing a quick change in scene. Transitions such as fade and dissolve are used to create different effects when cutting to different effects when cutting to a different scene.
 
Camera shots: a range of long shots, medium close ups anf close ups are usually found in music videos. Showing the subjects through all three shots emphasises the artists emotions as well as the location and setting of the video . Camera movement: music videos often have a mix of differen camera movements such as; pans, tilts, tracking shots and crane shots - these put together will make a video visually interesting.
 
 Sound: the sound in a music video will be the song playing over the film clips. A conventional way to shoot videos that feature an artist is to have them miming the lyrics so the audio relates more closely with the video.
